What are skill levels?

A more detailed look at how to adjust the levels on a skill map

In this article, we will answer questions about what levels are, what they affect, how to change the current scale, and how to use scale templates 👇

On every skill matrix, you have the "Levels" tab. Skill levels are used to assess the skill of employees.

Skills are displayed on the left of the page (vertically), skill levels are displayed on the top (horizontally). Hover the cursor over the level to see its numerical value.

By default, every skillboard has 5 levels:

  1. Noob (Learns)

  2. Beginner (Knows)

  3. Competent (Does)

  4. Advanced (Helps)

  5. Master (Teaches)

You can change the number of levels and their titles. There are two ways:

  • By changing the basic scale

  • By changing levels of a particular skill

Let's start with the basic scale

How to change the basic scale

If you are on skill matrix page, switch to Levels tab and click on wide button "Edit basic levels".

A new modal window appears. Use the settings button to the right of each level to change its order or delete.

You can change the name of the level by clicking on its name in the left column. And add or edit its description in the right column. When you are ready, click "Save" button.

A few words about level's description. It will be displayed while you are reviewing somebody or adjusting a position. Therefore, a brief characteristic can be given here, which determines the employee owns that level.

For example: level description of two skills on Graphic Designer skill matrix

The change in the base scale will affect all skill levels on the Skillboard. The exceptions are skills that have already had their information manually changed.

How to change levels of a particular skill

It's pretty simple here: click on the skill you want to change in the table.

Then change the information the way you need: the name can be changed in the level column, description in the right. Use the settings button to the right of each level to change its order or delete

How to use scale templates

You can find scale templates in the "Skill Matrices" section on the "Templates" tab. Each card here is one template. By default, you will have one default scale template. Here you can see and edit all of your templates.

To add a new scale, go to any map (next tab named "List"). And then switch to the "Levels" tab. Click on any skill to bring up an editing window. Click here on three dots in the right upper corner to call a new menu.

Use the "Save as template" button to save the current scale as a template.
